01 · The Technical Challenge

Architectural Bottlenecks

Precision Motor Works stocked 45,000+ automotive SKUs. On WooCommerce, their catalog relied on deep Year-Make-Model vehicle fitment tables and dozens of custom attribute taxonomies. The store suffered from 8-second page loads, frequent MySQL server crashes, and broken CSV import scripts.

02 · Webwidely Solution

Engineering Implementation

We deployed Webwidely Woo Migrator with automated helper plugin batching to stream data without PHP execution timeouts. Fitment logic was translated into Shopify 2.0 Metaobjects and native Search & Discovery filters. We delivered a high-speed, sub-second storefront.

Commercial Outcome

45,000+ SKUs transferred with 100% attribute fidelity, search speed accelerated from 8s to under 200ms, and mobile search-to-cart conversion rose by 34%.

Project Overview

Precision Motor Works is an aftermarket specialist providing performance suspension, braking, and exhaust components for European sports cars. Their catalog contained over 45,000 unique SKUs across hundreds of manufacturers.

In the automotive parts industry, customer search is entirely driven by Year / Make / Model (YMM) compatibility. On WooCommerce, this architecture required 4 different heavy plugins, generating millions of rows in wp_postmeta. The database was so congested that running an admin product search caused PHP fatal memory errors.

Technical Challenges

  1. Extreme SKU Volume & Multi-Axis Attributes
Standard migration plugins choke on catalogs exceeding 10,000 items. Precision needed 45,000+ SKUs transferred with precise inventory counts, wholesale vs. retail price tiers, and high-resolution CAD schematics.

  2. Vehicle Fitment (Year / Make / Model) Hierarchy
A single brake rotor might be compatible with 42 different vehicle trim levels across 6 production years. This relational compatibility data had to be preserved without losing search fidelity.

  3. Sub-Second Search Performance Requirement
Auto parts shoppers bounce immediately if filtering for their specific vehicle takes longer than 2 seconds.

Architectural Implementation

1. Throttled Memory-Safe API Ingestion

Using our proprietary Webwidely Woo Migrator, we bypassed WordPress shared memory limits by streaming data in managed 50-item batches directly to Shopify’s GraphQL Bulk Operation endpoints. The entire 45,000-SKU catalog was imported into Shopify in under 6 hours with zero dropped rows.

2. Vehicle Compatibility to Shopify Metaobjects

We structured vehicle fitments into native Shopify 2.0 Metaobjects:

  • Entity: Vehicle_Model (Year, Make, Model, Chassis Code)
  • Relationship: Products linked to multiple Vehicle_Model references via lists of Metaobjects
This eliminated slow database SQL joins and enabled Shopify’s edge-cached infrastructure to serve fitment results instantly.

3. Native Faceted Filter Architecture

We configured Shopify’s native Search & Discovery engine to index metaobject fitment attributes, brand filters, and material specifications, providing instant filtering on collection pages without external search subscription costs.

Key Results & Takeaways

  • 45,000+ SKUs & Attributes Migrated with full verified data integrity.
  • Search Response Time Reduced from 8,000ms to 180ms.
  • Zero Server Outages: Eliminated all WordPress PHP memory crashes and hosting bottlenecks.
  • 34% Lift in Search-to-Cart Conversion on mobile devices.
